Don’t you feel like we all limp over the finish line of the new year, every damn time? I certainly crawled my way to 2014, then danced right over into it.
However, once here, I’ve been experiencing some delayed Holiday Hangover, compounded by a terrible flu that I am still getting over, leaving me starting this year with a lot of leftover 2013 fatigue. This December to January I heard of so many losses in my community, and recalled that 2013 was the Year of the Snake, and we all have a lot of shedding to do to get to the Year of the Green Horse.
I’m not keen on resolutions, but I love figuring out what I want more of in my life, and then wondering how to invite it. So, one thing I identified was that I wanted more poetry, and I asked people to handwrite me their favorites, and I’d do the same for them. This poetry swap has, so far, been the best thing that’s happened to me in the new year. They often arrive just when I need them most, to provide some depth in a moment that feels a bit devoid of meaning.
I’d love to cull even more from the shared dream that is the poetic language, so please, send me your favorite poems! Message me if you need my mailing address to do so, and believe me, I’ll happily send one your way in return. I think we could all use a little beauty and reflection right about now, no?
